About Us

Warwick Ahead started as a Big Local Project where residents got to decide how to use funding over 10 years to improve the community. This was led by Warwick Ahead Community Board.

Since then, the Hub’s impact has extended far beyond its physical walls. It has provided a consistent, visible presence on the estate which has made a big difference to residents and strengthened the community. It has:

  • Built trust, confidence and connections

  • Provided a space away from life’s challenges

  • Offered practical crisis support

  • Attracted new services into the area (e.g. Citizens Advice, Stop Smoking services) to provide more support for residents

  • Created regular positive activities and ways for people to come together

  • Increased community leadership, self-belief and confidence of local people

Over time, the hub and Recycle Your Bits shop have become trusted and valued places within the neighbourhood, shaped by the people who use it and the volunteers who help run it.

The new funding from the National Lottery will allow us to build on the work already happening in the local community over the next three years, with a new focus on health and wellbeing of residents.

Who Are We?

Our project is led by Warwick Ahead Community Board, made up of people and volunteers from the Warwick Estate who make decisions based on what they know is needed. They work with residents at every stage to shape what’s on offer and how we work.

Since 2016, the Community Board has been supported by Nova Wakefield District, a local charity with expertise in community partnerships and not-for-profit organisations.

We also aim to work with local groups and organisations who can help us improve the lives of the community within the wider Knottingley area.
